The ``Simple Network Management Protocol'' (SNMP) [37,39] is a protocol for internet network management services. It is formally specified in the IETF standards STD15 [24], STD16 [16], STD17 [17] and STD50 [18] as well as a series of RFC documents. The protocol is not limited to use on TCP/IP networks. It can for example also be used over OSI [36] or on IPX [2].
